Sarah Patience Design - Handmade Wedding Stationery

Stationery - First Impressions Count!
Alison Newport from The Pretty Posh Company shares some top tips for Stationery on your big day!

First impressions are all split second moments; we all make decisions on those first glimpses! So creating the perfect first impression of your Wedding Day will be an important decision.

Your Wedding Invitations are that ‘First Impression’ for your guests. A hint of your special day. Making your Invitations just that little bit special will help create that air of magical excitement. The quality, originality and design all say a lot about you and your Wedding Day. So you have to get it just right. It’s like a visual form of you and the plans you’ve made for your big day.

Choosing Wedding Stationery can be one of the first things you do when planning your wedding. So here are a few pointers and ideas to help you with that important choice of ‘First Impression’.

  • Firstly, plan your budget and try and stick with it. If you need to change certain elements to keep to your budget, the designer should be able to help you with that.

  • Choose a theme or colour, maybe the colour of your Wedding Dress or Bridesmaids’ dresses, flowers or the time of year that you’re getting married. This could be incorporated into your stationery.

  • Choose the best quality invitations you can afford, remember that your guests will feel, as well as see your invitations. Quality will always shine through. You can always discuss with your Wedding Stationery designer how to cut back on other parts of the stationery, like the Order of Service being a blank front cover for the men and keep the embellished ones for the ladies. Women are more likely to hold onto mementos of your day.

  • Wording of your invitations can be a bit of a nightmare too! Most wedding stationers will be able to help you with that. You can always choose your own wording or use a combination of the more traditional styles.

  • Obtain samples of the style you’ve chosen. Most designers charge a fee, which will normally be refunded against your future order.

  • Once you have found the designer, make sure you order your Wedding Stationery in plenty of time. Invitations are normally sent out between 6-8 weeks before your wedding. So order your stationery at least 4 months before your wedding.

  • Discuss any changes of colour, slight design changes with your wedding stationery designer. They should be able to help you have your perfect invitation. Or you could have some stationery that is completely unique to you and your wedding. Some designers don’t charge for their ‘creativity’ so give them some ideas and they will normally come up with some ideas for you. This bespoke service means that no-one else has ever had your stationery design! How special is that!

  • Be aware that some companies will design and make a minimum order quantity. Some of them require you to purchase in tens. However, there are companies that will allow you to order the exact amount of stationery you require. You don’t want to be left with lots of unused invitations that you have to pay for!

  • There are some gorgeous designs out there and you can get ‘bogged down’ with searching. Using the internet to do most of the work will help enormously.

  • There are lots of beautiful envelopes available these days, ask your designer if they can advise you which would be best for your style of invitation. Remember, first impressions count!

  • Finally, to add that little extra ‘wow’ to your invitations, sprinkle some confetti or dried rose petals into the card, so when your guests open up their invitation they have a small confetti shower! Don’t over do it though!

  • Enjoy all of your wedding plans and have a fantastic wedding day!
